04.11.2015Second workshop on Elective Course “Ethnic folklore – Roma folklore”

Nearly 80 teachers took part in the second training workshop on Elective Course "Ethnic folklore - Roma folklore", which is part from the "Every student will be a winner" project, supported by the Trust for Social Achievement. The event took place in Lyaskovetz from 2nd to 4th November. Nina Alexandrova and Anastasia Novikova, both members of our partner International Elias Canetti Society, were official guests of the workshop.

During the three days of the workshop, Deyan Kolev and Teodora Krumova put accent on the importance of teaching “Ethnic folklore – Roma folklore” as a significant drop-out prevention tool and its targets – teachers, students and their parents.

The workshop was divided into theoretical and practical sessions. During the first ones, the teachers learned about the different Roma groups in Bulgaria, their origin and characteristics. Also, they were trained how to work with the manuals and books for the Elective Course “Ethnic Folklore – Roma folklore”, prepared by CIDT “Amalipe” and received information about current projects for educational integration.

During the practical sessions, the teachers shared their experiences and cases, working with students and parents. They had also funny and helpful sessions, during which they assumed theatrical techniques of oral representation in order to use them in front of the students. One of the tasks were to represent and play fairytales from the Roma folklore, included in the aforementioned manuals.

The participants rated the quality of the workshop unambiguously – they can put effectively the learned theory in their practice with the students.
