06.09.2014St. Cyril and Methodius Primary school in the village of Batak, Pavlikeni municipality, with a new principal and a new vision

St. Cyril and Methodius” Primary school in the village of Batak, Pavlikeni municipality participated for three years now in the program of Center Amalipe \"Every student could be a winner”. It\'s a small school with few students - 81 in the past school year, all of Roma origin. All of them, contrary to what is often expected of them, have the ambition to achieve great things. The following lines will tell you how this is happening in the past few months. The school started the second semester of 2013/2014 year, with a new principal - Chennai Nuriev. He took the difficult task to prove that when you want to achieve change, you can do it - if you make children and parents believe in themselves, they can achieve great success regardless of the conditions. His vision is that the school must provide effective and quality education, to have a good psychological climate among colleagues and make every effort to keep students in school.

His appointment set the start of a progressive visual change in the school - all classrooms, the staff room and gradually the overall appearance of the school were changed. On September 15, students from primary school will enter classrooms with new desks and chairs. You\'ll meet new façade - refreshed with landscaped path near the school building, with new PVC windows.

From this academic year, the elementary school classes will be independent, albeit in small classes, which is a great success for children and teachers. In this way children will receive a quality education at an early stage of their education. Thanks to the sponsorship of one of the publishers, primary teachers are provided tablets in order to modernize and introduce information technology at an early stage of education. This school year 2014-2015, the school enrolled 87 students of which 44 in the initial stage and 43 in lower secondary education. In addition the school enrolled 15 more students in individual training.

Parents also have their place in school. On September 17, the new group of 10 parents will complete the six-month course on \"New Chance for Success\" OPHRD and after successful exams will receive certificates for primary education. Thanks to the local moderator of Amalipe Sergei Sashev, they are included in everything that relates to the school and their children. His strategy is simple – he set up a parent club at the school while teaching their children the Bulgarian folk dances. He always insists on children to be accompanied by their parents on rehearsals and while the kids rehearse, he holds informal meetings of the parent club. The parents discuss different things - problems at school, how parents can help to address them, which children are at risk of dropping out, how to be helped. This creates an active parent community. The school has no dropouts and the average grade of the children is good. Their participation in different initiatives and events in and out of school are numerous. Last year the students of the school were invited to attend the anniversary of the school \"Bacho Kiro\" in the town of Pavlikeni, as well as in the annual folk festival, which takes place near the town. This year one group for culinary and one group for dances and customs will be set under the \"Success\" project, in which the parents will also participate. The parent club at the school, along with the local women\'s group at the local development club \"Amalipe\" in the village of Batak will have the difficult task to engage children with pleasurable activities. This year will be formed and the school football team, which will compete with other schools in Pavlikeni municipality and thus the children will have the opportunity to visit other neighboring schools. Trips, which will be held this year is another good news for children and parents who did not have any excursions for years.

Mr. Chennai Nuriev graduated History and Geography and has additional Master\'s degrees in Philosophy and Management and organization of education at \"St. Cyril and Methodius\" University, Veliko Tarnovo. He has been a teacher at \"Bacho Kiro\" primary school- Pavlikeni, in \"Tsanko Tserkovski\" vocational school in Pavlikeni and now he is a principal at \"St.Cyril and Methodius\" primary school in the village of Batak. He is also one of the first teachers, who took the challenge to teach \"Ethnic Folklore - Roma Folklore\" more than 10 years ago.
