21.09.2016Center Amalipe held a regional forum on Community monitoring and Planning Roma integration interventions

 

The regional forum was held on 17 of September 2016 near the town of Veliko Tarnovo. It brought together representatives of regional institutions from Veliko Turnovo, Targovishte, Shumen and Rousse Districts: Regional Healthcare Inspection, Regional Inspectorates of Education, District administrations, municipal representatives, school principals, representatives of the Managing Authorities of OP "Science and education about smart growth" and OP "Human resources development", Roma community moderators, health, education and labor mediators and others. It was organized by AMALIPE Center for Interethnic Dialogue and Tolerance as part of the program for promoting community monitoring of healthcare services supported by Roma Health Project of OSF and LERI project of FRA in Pavlikeni.

During the forum the participants discussed:

1.The experience of early marriage prevention program of Center Amalipe within the project "Early marriage - culture or abuse?" and the community monitoring of health services conducted in the municipalities of Pavlikeni, Veliko Tarnovo, Gorna Oryahovitsa and Strazhitsa;

2. Results from the early marriage survey conducted in the same municipalities. The main findings were presented by Ivan Todorov (Community Development Coordinator in Amalipe) as well as by the community moderators in the Community Development Centers in Pavlikeni, Veliko Tarnovo - Gorna Oryahovitsa and Strazhitsa. They stressed the biggest challenges faced by the local communities. Together with the regional and local institutions they discussed concrete actions to be undertaken in order to meet these problematic areas;

3.LERI initiative in Pavlikeni: activities and results from the healthcare, pre-school and hilgh-school components. The participants discussed how these activities could be organized in other municipalities and how to ensure their continuation in Pavlikeni;

4. Important current developments regarding Roma integration policy: Deyan Kolev presented how the new Public Education Act (that is in force since August 1) will affect the educational integration. He stressed the forthcoming challenges: establishment of Public Council in every school and kindergarten (by the end of 2016) and possibilities for establishment of the so-called “united schools” that educate students from 1st to 10th grade (by May 31, 2017);

5. Possibilities for financing the integration policy, early marriage prevention and community monitoring activities: the forthcoming operation “Socio-economic integration of marginalized communities” and th e current operation “Your lesson” were presented and discussed.
