With a great party in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, Vasilitsa – the Roma New Year was celebrated. The event was organized by voluntary club “Youth is Tolerance”, Veliko Tarnovo within Center Amalipe together with art-club “TAM”.
Yesterday (January 15th) at club “TAM”, Veliko Tarnovo (Bulgaria), a documentary film about the life in a Roma neighbourhood was presented. “Roma Quixote” shows, not only the way they live, but also about the freedom to choose, about the borders of the mind and beyond. Special guests were Petya Nakova, scriptwriter and co-director of the production and Valeri Lekov, character form the film. In the end of the projection the two of them answered question from the audiance.
Later, the same evening, the programme continued with a lot of dances and music performed by Roma orchestra from the town of Zlataritsa. By tradition all the guests had the chance to “try their luck” – it was served Banitsa (traditional Bulgarian food prepared by layering a mixture of whipped eggs and pieces of cheese between filo pastries, baked in an oven) with lucky charms put in it. The “Banitsa with lucky charms” is a traditional dish for the celebrating of Vasilitsa – Roma New Year.
