04.04.201475 representatives of the Roma community of Novi Pazar enrolled in school
On April 14, 2014 classrooms of Novi pazar will host 75 people from the local Roma community. Community moderators to CIEDT "Amalipe" in the municipality of Novi Pazar, found out in their field work, that the majority of the adult Roma population were not educated and even some of them were illiterate. This gives rise to many difficulties in working with families both in terms of prevention of school dropout of Roma children and in terms of issues like overcoming early marriages and early pregnancies, violence, use of psychotropic substances, participation of parents towards behavior of their children. Community moderators held a number of meetings with local authorities and with local educational institutions to whom they shared their observationsof their fieldwork. The local primary school "N. Vaptsarov" applied for the "New Chance for Success" Program, community moderators conducted awareness campaigns from house to house and managed to motivate the local Roma community to educate themselves. There are already 75 people enrolled in different classes from 1 to 7 grade. The training will last for 4 months. it will continue again the next school year .
So the school bell for parents and adults from Novi pazar will ring again on April 14, 2014. For some of them for the first time .. Good luck!
