Number 13 frightens the superstitious people, but the participants in the Children Roma Festival "Open Heart" are not afraid! For the thirteenth consecutive year Center "Amalipe" and the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo organize the International Children Roma Festival "Open Heart" on 3, 4 and 5 June in the park "Marno pole" - an event in which once again over 2,000 participants from different ethnic groups in Bulgaria, as well as foreign groups from China, Macedonia, Romania, Albania and Germany will be together.

The opening of the festival will take place on June 3 at 2:00 p.m. in the park "Marno pole". The festival program will end on June 5 at noon, the best performing groups during the three days in the categories "Best Workshop" and "Best Group" will be awarded and Veliko Turnovo Municipality will award the Grand Prize.

The "Open Heart" Festival proved to be good practice to motivate Roma children and children from different ethnic groups to present to the public its traditions and diversity of native folklore, while it is an incentive for children to achieve better results and success in school. The program of the Festival combines the traditions, crafts, elements of fairy and folk music, history, life and culture of Bulgarian, Romani, Turkish and other ethnic groups represented in a unique way by the children of Bulgaria and the other countries participating in the festival. Besides the traditional and modernized Roma, Bulgarian and Turkish dances, the colorful program of the festival will be further enriched by Indian dances, "Henna" custom, Russian fan dance "On the Wings of Wind". The bunch of Bulgarian folk dance, which will be performed during the festival reflects the full range of Bulgarian ethnographic regions. The play "My karma", which was created specifically for children's dance-theater company "Chavale romale" from the village of Golyamo Novo is also an interesting performance. The idea is that audience should turn to the Indian roots of the Roma community. At the same time it puts issues like good and evil, love and hate. The music and costumes are specially selected for the show.

The three-day festival program includes a series of accompanying events. Our participants will conduct workshops, where each visitor can join and be creative! We will hint a few of them - workshops on making soap products and ceramics, traditional masks, ikebana, studio for henna tattoo and much more. And our Chinese group, in collaboration with the Institute "Confucius" will hold a workshop on traditional Chinese crafts - tea ceremony, calligraphy, cutting paper and tying knots.

During the festival you can see the exhibition "The face of Roma - now and then," which has a documentary character and collect pictures, articles, stories and other samples of cultural heritage of the Roma community in Bulgaria.

For all visitors and guests of Veliko Tarnovo will be performed the audio-visual show "Sound and Light", which will start at 9:00 p.m. on June 4th!

Another event of high importance for the future of our children will be the round table on "Early Childhood Development - the key to educational integration" which will bring together a number of ambassadors, politicians and representatives of Roma organizations in Bulgaria.

Be sure to join in the festival procession of our participants on June 3 on main street "Vasil Levski" in Veliko Tarnovo from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.! The big attraction for all attendees will be the procession of a Chinese dragon. The Chinese dragon symbolizes luck and goodness. It is one of the most important creatures in Chinese mythology and is the winner of the male yang energy and creativity.

We invite you to become part of an extraordinary holiday in June, where the main heroes will be our children!

The event is organized with the support of the Trust for social achievement, Veliko Turnovo, with the media support of Peika.bg
