The final conference in the agenda of Early Marriage Prevention Network Project on the topic of "Professionals, Parents and Children Combating Early Marriages in Roma Communities" was held on 24 November 2017 in Brussels, Belgium
Representatives of the project partners: "Opportunity and Protection Association", Center for Interethnic Dialogue and Tolerance Amalipe, Cell for Alternative Youth Activities (Greece), European Roma Information Office, Pere Closa Foundation (Spain), Adult Education Centre Kočevje (Slovenia).
The project partners presented their work in the prevention of early marriages in the Roma community and shared valuable experience and the challenges they faced as well as recommendations for further action combating early marriages in the Roma community.
Representatives of UNICEF, UN, European Parliament, European Women's Lobby took part in the conference.
The main topics covered during the conference were the European perspectives for preventing early marriages, as well as the challenges and possible solutions.
Within the final discussion, participants came to the shared conclusion that key factors in preventing early marriages are access to education, empowerment of women in Roma communities, and economic integration and poverty reduction.
