30.04.2018National institutions and embassies celebrated the International Roma Day

The doors of major national institutions and diplomatic missions were opened on the occasion of the International Roma Day to welcome the awarded of the Why Secondary Education Competition. This happened within the framework of the Initiative "Student Leaders: Vice President, Ambassadors and Ministers for a Day" organized by Amalipe Center on April 12.

Vice President Iliana Yotova, Ambassadors of Switzerland, France and the Netherlands, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev, Labor Minister Biser Petkov, Deputy Minister of Regional Development Malina Kroumova, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Todor Stoyanov, Embassy Diplomats of Germany, Belgium and Sweden hosted Roma youngsters and girls awarded in the three categories of the Why Secondary Education Competition. They shared their personal stories about how education led them to the heights of government and diplomacy. They received as a gift a Roma flag and ... shared dreams for good education and successful life realization. The young diplomats and ministers then spoke with the Minister of Education Krassimir Valchev and received from him the awards for the participation in the competition.

The International Roma Day, April 8, will always remain in the hearts of the students. See the stories of:

- Bozhidar Mihailov, a student at the Vocational High School of Light Industry - Omurtag for his meeting with Vice President Iliana Yotova

- Emma Marinova of the "P. R. Slaveikov" United school- Djulyunitsa village, who met with Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev

The Day of the Student Leaders: Vice President, Ambassadors and Ministers for a Day initiative will remain in the hearts of us, the organizers of the Amalipe Center for Interethnic Dialogue and Tolerance. Not only because we met the recognition of the major national institutions and diplomatic missions that have accepted our idea with confidence and opened their doors. Most of them for the first time marked the International Roma Day - without any pompousness and hypocrisy. We will remember this day also because of the happiness and the hopes we saw in the eyes of educated girls and boys. We are sure that for them it will be the best motivation to continue their education and achieve their dreams. We wish you success, girls and boys! We will always be there for you!

One more thing: we, from Amalipe Center try to create traditions of the things we start. This year, the Children's Open Heart Festival will be held for the 15th time. Since 2010, every year our students visit main ministries and embassies on the occasion of Vasilitsa - the Roma New Year. Since 2013 on April 8, we meet Roma teachers with the Minister of Education. Our ambition is to turn the initiative "Student Leaders: Vice President, Ambassadors and Ministers for a Day" also into a tradition ...
