12.11.2018 The Sixth National Meeting of Student Parliaments was held in Sliven
Last year, I told you a story about tolerance and friendship (see here). And if you think I'm exaggerating - you're lying yourself, because this year it happened again in front of our eyes - even more beautiful and real.
For a sixth consecutive year Amalipe Center gathered over 100 young, positive and active people in Sliven. The leadership Academy - "School of Tolerance" was held from 1st to 4th of November at Sport Palace Hotel and assembled representatives of the student parliaments established within the project "Every student will be a winner" funded by the Trust for Social Achievement.
The Academy was opened by Deyan Kolev, Chair of Amalipe Center, Teodora Krumova, Program Director of Amalipe Center and Yordanka Stoilova - Senior Expert in Primary education at RDE. As a host, she welcomed all the students and wished them four days of fruitful work, to reveal their potential and create new friendships. The afternoon continued with a team challenge in which young people, divided into 4 groups, had to start building teams.
This year, the Leadership Academy passed under the motto "From Hate speech to Happy speech". Therefore, for the first time in the agenda there were also countering online and offline hate speech sessions. The participants went through assignments, part of a methodology developed within the Words are Stones project (funded by the European Union's Rights, Equality and Citizenship Program). Besides the practical tasks, students also discussed bullying at school, hackers in social networks, fake news and how we can counter them. We have challenged everyone to respond positively to hate comments and to fill the online content with smiles. For this purpose, we have also announced a student contest through which students can show how they see hate speech and how we can influence haters, as participants can create videos, graphics, or essays.
