The district administration of Veliko Turnovo hosted a meeting between the regional structure of the Ministry of Interior, Center Amalipe, formal and informal leaders of the different groups of the Roma community in Veliko Turnovo. It was led by the District Governor prof. Pencho Penchev.
The Director of the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry senior commissioner Dimitar Mashov, the Deputy Mayor of Veliko Turnovo prof. Georgi Kamarashev, the Mayor of Zlataritsa Municipality Pencho Chanev, representatives of the Municipality of Lyaskovets, etc. and representatives of the regional offices of the Ministry of Interior discussed best practices and problems in preventing and tackling problems related to the Roma community in the region. They discussed specific tasks and shared best practices on preventing early/ forced marriages and domestic crime.
During the workshop the results achieved and the activities implemented in working with minorities were presented. Participants have been familiarized with the activity of the Community Development Centers (established by Center Amalipe) and the community moderators and the difficulties they face during the field work.
The initiative is held to answer the measures taken in implementation of the National Strategy of Bulgaria for Roma Integration (2012 -2020), and to improve the interaction between RDMI - Veliko Turnovo and representatives of the Roma community on the territory of Veliko Turnovo.
The participants in the meeting approved the proposal of the District governor such meetings to take place every month in each Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior. They will be attended by Roma leaders from the respective municipality. In addition, representatives of the NRA, NSSI, the Labor Inspection, the Department of Child Protection, probation officers and others will be also invited at these meetings.
