20.03.2012Meeting of labor office directors about the effectiveness of the Roma labor mediators in Bulgaria

A work meeting with the directors of labor offices in Gorna Oryahovitsa, Levski and Byala and  the Roma mediators took place on March 12 in the old capital. The meeting was organized by Amalipe and marked the beginning of a series of meetings between those offices and Amalipe within the pilot project “Increasing the effectiveness of Roma labor mediators”, funded by the Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative (LGI) of the Open Society Institute – Budapest.

How effective are the current Roma labor mediators, what needs to be changed in their job profile and how efficient their interaction with the Roma community is: these are just some of the questions which the participants of the meeting, held in Youth Center – Veliko Tarnovo, tried to answer. The project “Increasing the effectiveness of Roma labor mediators” is a six month project and the expected results thereof are to organize meetings between employers and the community, to create a clear picture of the work potential among the Roma community and that the Roma labor mediators of each municipality play a major role in finding clients for their institution by interviewing them  directly in there houses. Another expected outcome of the project is to establish a Municipal Plan for the activity of the Roma labor mediators with the active participation and initiative of the respective municipalities, especially in view of the forthcoming local meetings in Strazhitsa, Levski and Byala – Ruse Province.

“With this pilot project we really hope to demonstrate how effective the work of the Roma labor mediators is and at the same time to come as close as possible to the community.” said Atanas Stoyanov from Center Amalipe –  coordinator of the project.
