27.02.2012Center “Amalipe“ conducted health campaign for the prevention of tuberculosis in the village of Petko Karavelovo
On February 23, 2012 Center “Amalipe” conducted a health campaign within “Strengthening the National Program for Prevention and Control of Tuberculosis in Bulgaria” (Component 5) together with the Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Pneumo-physiatric Diseases Dr. Treyman Ltd. Veliko Tarnovo. Thanks to the cooperation with the Mayor Lyubomir Lambev and local activists, the campaign took place in the village of Petko Karavelovo. Discussions were held in the local pensioner’s club in presence of the nurse Ivanichka Balgaranova who informed the attendees about tuberculosis. The nurse faced the topic as a problem in the village, because there are a few people who are ill or have suffered from tuberculosis and she provided information about how the disease is transmitted, how it is treated, what symptoms an infected person has and how to self-protect. The people were interested in how they can protect themselves when cases of the disease already occurred and how to stop the transmission on local level. They fear that their village could become a hotspot. The nurse encouraged everybody with symptoms and everybody who knows someone with symptoms of tuberculosis to contact competent staff. Employees of Center Amalipe offered to everybody the opportunity to get checked in the hospital whether they have symptoms of this disease. The costs were covered by Amalipe as an organization working under the TB program. The campaign was conducted to identify risk and distribute health education material.
