From June 5 to 7 Accountability and Monitoring in Health Initiative (AMHI) at OSF organized Capacity Building Consultation. It took place in Istanbul. More than 20 participants from America, Africa and Europe took part in the consultation. Center Amalipe was represented by its chairman Deyan Kolev.

The purpose of the consultation was to contribute for the AMHI strategy development through discussing the following questions:

1.  What are effective or promising strategies and practices for building civil society capacity in monitoring for accountability in health?

2. How can AMHI best identify, cultivate and support technical assistance resources for capacity building efforts?

3. How can AMHI best support sustainable development of monitoring for accountability in health through our capacity building grant-making?

Deyan Kolev presented the experience of Center Amalipe for organizing community monitoring on health care services in Roma communities in Veliko Turnovo and Pavlikeni Municipalities following th methodology of social audit developed by Abhijit Das. He outlined that strengthening community mobilization and establishing structures within the community (such as community development groups, youth clubs, women clubs, etc.) is crucial for the success of every community monitoring exercise.  For the AMHI strategy Kolev proposed special attention on common activities developed by organizations from different regions and countries. These could be not only peer visits but also internships, joint trainings of community activists and even joint actions at grass-root level that brings together activists who do community monitoring in different regions and continents. It will provide all participants with new point of self-reflection that would improve highly the efficiency and effectiveness of the work done.
