12 adults from the town of Levski started the literacy course for adults from the joint project of the Ministry of Education and the Employment Agency “New Chance for Success”. The course started on June 18 and continues to November this year. When completed successfully the participants will receive a certificate of primary education. The training takes place in the Elementary School “Hristo Botev” in Levski. At the same time 11 people have started literacy courses for adults in the village of Obnova, reported the Roma labor mediator from the job center in Levski, Mrs. Penka Merakova. The training there takes place in the school “Neofit Rilski”.

The details of the program explained Mrs. Merakova. Everybody with a minimum age of 16 and without a completed level of education can participate. The training groups should contain at least 10 and not more than 15 students. Students within the program from all around the country will receive four 4 Leva per day. Those 4 Leva per day are provided by the job center in Levski for the travel costs, if there are any. The participants in the program will temporarily suspend their visits to the job center since they have to sign a certificate for attending the classes regularly. This does not mean an interruption of their registration in the job center. They retain their status of an unemployed person looking for work. Educational materials for older students are provided by the schools.

The difference between the new program “New Chance for Success” and the old “Program for Literacy and Education of Roma” is that all students will get a real certificate of graduation issued by the Ministry of Education and not just issued by job centers like before.
