07.08.2012International Youth Day in Veliko Tarnovo
Youth Club "K7" - Veliko Tarnovo, working under Component 7 of the " HIV /AIDS Prevention and Control" Program of the Ministry of health to reduce vulnerability to HIV among young people, will mark the International Youth Day - August 12th with a campaign, divided in three parts.
The campaign starts at 16:00 on Sunday, when volunteers from the youth club will begin with giving condoms and health education materials in front of the municipality of Veliko Tarnovo. An hour later at 17:00, the group of young people organized cleaning around the "Asenevtsi" monument. At 20:00 a campaign for distributing educational materials in some of the most visited place in the city will be held.
With these activities the volunteers’ Club K7 wants to show people how important is the role of youth and in how many ways they can be useful with their personal participation in public life. It is time to fight the stereotype of young people who are believed to be idle or a source of vandalism. Young people nowadays are active, productive and responsible!
UN General Assembly declared 12th of August as the International Youth Day in December 1999. The aim is to provoke greater understanding of the World Youth Programme in action. For the first time in 2007, August 12th was marked officially in Bulgaria. International Youth Day gives the world an opportunity to develop the possibilities and potential of young people to celebrate their achievements and to plan ways to better involve them in development and progress of our society. Moreover, the day provides a unique opportunity for this - young people are integrated into the process of decision making at global, national and local level.
It focuses on raising awareness of the problems of young people through information campaigns to support them, the organization of dialogue and focus on the richness and diversity of skills, interests and aspirations of young people.
