01.10.2012Center Amalipe’s team made an attractive program campaign for the Day of European Languages

 

On September 26, 2012, students, teachers and representatives of the local community in the village of Vodoley were actively involved in celebrations of the Day of European Languages. The initiative is under the Project "To touch the untouchables: fighting traditional and new anti-Roma stereotypes“, implemented by center Amalipe. The celebrations started at 01 p.m. at “Hristo Smirnenski” Primary school in the village of Vodoley, Veliko Tarnovo municipality. The place for celebrating the Day of European Languages was deliberately chosen, because the population of the village is represented by several ethnic groups-Bulgarian, Roma and Turkish. Interactive methods were used to show the language diversity in the region. Students told different words as love, health, happiness, etc, in their mother language and then they were given the meanings of the same words in different European languages. The main goals of the initiative in the village of Vodoley were to promote multilingualism; to inform the local community about the importance of learning foreign languages ​​and to promote the diversity of languages; to encourage language learning at any age; to promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity in Europe and to increase the level of intercultural understanding.

Students, teachers and representatives of the local community let balloons in different colors in the sky at the end of the event, saying “The sun shines for everyone! All people are equal and we are enriched by diversity!”

The “Day of European languages” was celebrated also in Vratsa, Pazardzhik, Burgas, Shumen and Sofia districts. Balloons, t-shirts and posters were given to the participants.

In the town of Vratsa the campaign was located on the square in front of "Office souvenirs" at 5.00 p.m.

In the town of Oryahovo the campaign was located on the square in front of the city hall at 5 p.m.

In the town of Kozloduy the campaign was located in front of "St. St. Cyril and Methodius” High school.

In the town of Roman the campaign was located in front of the “P.R. Slaveykov” Elementary school. Students visited the institutions at district level and gave balloons, marked with “The sun shines for everyone” logo.

Students from the towns of Peshtera and Pazardzhik handed out information materials and visited the municipality buildings, Labor Bureau, Crisis Centre, waste disposal company. Balloons were let in the sky and turned into a colorful rainbow that drew the attention of passers-by.

Schools in the town of Shumen focused on foreign language training, and the program activities were media covered in the "Shumen fireworks“ newspaper. A slogan competition for the campaign: "Bulgaria and the world are changing, Be Aware" was announced on the same day.

 Folklore costumes revue and songs, poetry and dancing were performed by students from schools in Bourgas and the region in the Palace of Culture in the town of Bourgas.
