From 28th to 30th of November, representatives of Amalipe Center attended a conference in Montpellier, France, about violence against women.

It was organized within the Sheroes project, funded by the European Commission under the Daphne program , where the Amalipe Center is one of the project partners. Coordinator  of the project are Papatya - Germany.

Violence against women theme prompted all partners to present their work in their own countries on this issue.

Within the realization of this project in the following countries -UK Member - IKWRO, Austria - Orient - Express, France - Planning Familial, Romania - Liga pro Europe, Germany - Papatya and Center Amalipe- Bulgaria, the issue of domestic violence and early marriages have been spoken up and increased the need to work in this direction.

Four partner meetings to exchange experiences, activities, practices and sharing the results of the Sheroes project have been conducted so far.

The conference was attended also by representatives of local and national institutions, which took the violence against women as a very important topic. This is a topic, which should not be interfered in because of tradition and culture, especially when it occurs in marginalized and minority communities.

The opening and welcome speech was made by Colin Erlinham - Regional Delegate of women\'s rights and equality. She congratulated the coordinator and the project partners for the actual activities and results and recommended to other guests, representatives of institutions and administrations to have better communication and engagement on this sensitive issue.

Diana Nammi - President of IKWRO, London presented how important the role of local institutions in addressing these issues is- A moving story that should make us think about.  A true story is the story for 20 year old girl, who has gone to the police station six times, to testify and seek protection and support ... A few months later, the same child was found dead in the family.

This can happen to anyone…

Center Amalipe on behalf of Tanya Vanova and Nelly Nikolova, presented the work in the Roma community through Community Development Centers.

It is important not only to solve the current problem but also to prevent it.  We should not exclude men! These themes nowadays should not be a taboo because every human life is precious .. And it is lot easier to prevent the problem than to solve it, said Tanya Vanova.

The conference ended with a discussion, which led to great hopes for cooperation between NGOs and state institutions, at least as it is in France.

Tanya Vanova and Nelly Nikolova shared knowledge from partners to Center Amalipe’s team.
