15.11.2012Representatives from five countries gathered in Veliko Tarnovo to discuss the Roma integration in the framework of the project "Roma in EU"

A partnership meeting under the project "Roma in EU" was held in Veliko Tarnovo on 13 and 14th of November. The project is coordinated by the European Commission under the program Lifelong Learning.
The project has begun in October 2011 and should be completed in 2013.
The goal of the project is to prepare and train mediators to work with the Roma communities. Mediators work in the partner countries- Bulgaria, Romania, Spain, Germany, and Hungary.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss what initiatives and educational practices are required in order to reach the goal of the project and the required results. The training materials will include strategies for conflict resolution, decision making, tolerance, and anything else that moderators shared that they need to work effectively in the Roma community. In the pilot phase
of the project at least 15 moderators will be trained in each of the countries. In the beginning of the year, an online training will be conducted as well.
Azucena Martinez explained, that in each country the moderators are dealing with different problems and it is hard to give summarized information:'' The situation is different in each Roma community and the difficulty comes from the fact that the moderators need to adapt to different communities in each one of the countries,'' said the coordinator for Spain. In the end of the meeting the participants agreed on setting up the goal to work for better coordination with the institutions and to seek better feedback from them.
