19.03.2013Workshop for mentors from Bulgaria under the "Reducing Roma children drop out of school"

 

In March Amalipe Center and regional coordinators met with the directors of the schools involved in the program "Reducing Roma children drop out of school." After the regional meetings with directors Amalipe Center held a meeting with mentors working in the program. From 15 to 17th of March, coping with difficult situation after the hurricane, the office of "Amalipe" and 80 mentors held the workshop in "Bryasta" and hotel "Etar" - Veliko Tarnovo.

The results of the first term of the present school year were presented. The good results - reducing the number of absences, reducing the number of school dropouts, improving work with parents,'empowerment' of students, all of them stimulated, but not completely reassured teachers. By exchanging best practices and case study, each of the participants - teachers were willing to provide a good model and to give advice to help a colleague from another region.

     Main subjects which teachers worked and discussed were:

- Development of school till now

- Parent clubs

- Students' parliaments

- EPA, Ethnic Folklore-Roma Folklore "

          (SWOT analysis program)

- Teachers teaching teachers

        (SWOT analysis module)

Before and during the discussions were shown the following films:

     "School - a colorful world of my dreams" - about life in school "Hristo Smirnenski",  Koynare

     "As we call it - Roma Cambridge" - about life in "Hristo Botev" school, Dolni Tsibar shown on BTV.

     Colleagues from Silistra presented a model for teamwork in schools - module "Working with bilingual children." In an attractive way "Amalipe"Center get feedback from the participants who rated the work as a whole during the seminar.

Each module was moderated by Theodora Krumova, Deyan Kolev and Tanya Vanova.

Regional coordinators of the six regions participated actively in the workshop. They are familiar with successes and problems in the implementation of program activities.

The meeting continued with an additional program - upcoming activities,activities with CDCs, allocating tasks to prepare the "Open Heart"festival. And administrative issues ... all related to good communication between the office of "Amalipe" and regional coordinators.
