Workshop for school principals from South Central Bulgaria working on the project "Reducing the Roma children drop out from school." was conducted on March 7-8, 2013 at "Armira" hotel in Stara Zagora mineral baths.
The meeting was attended by 24 (of 30) school principles of Stara Zagora and Plovdiv region.
Guests at the meeting were representatives of the RIE Plovdiv - Mrs. Nellie Spasova, and RIE-Stara Zagora - Mr. Dimitar Peev, a representative of the "Amalipe" Center - Ms. Desislava Stefanova and Mr. Methody Terziev, Director "Institutional Partnerships" under the "Together in class" program who presented the scope of the program and provide examples of successful work with Roma children.
On the first day of the meeting the results of the program Reducing the Roma children drop out from school were reported. Nine teams of basic and pilot schools in short presentations presented their strengths and weaknesses in their work on the project. The biggest successes was reported in work on extracurricular activities "Ethnic Folklore - Roma Folklore". The activities of the preventing program related to Student Parliament and practice "students helping students" are successfully implemented in most of the schools.Certain difficulties have been shared in working with parents.
During the second day of the meeting, participants worked on plans to avoid weaknesses in the school teams. After submission of the plans there was a discussion and exchange of best practices.
In a survey conducted at the end of the meeting, all participants shared their satisfaction with the workshop and wish to continue their cooperation with the Amalipe Center.
