OPEN LETTER

We, over 230 civil society organizations from Bulgaria, are deeply concerned and outraged by the growing fascist and Nazi trend to dictate the public order in the country.

Among today’s Bulgarian society, fascist vigils, patrols, concerts and events that endanger the public peace and social integrity are openly organized. On 10th of December 1948, the whole civilized world adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the UN which rejected the principles of totalitarian fascist system and its ideology. The first article of the declaration denies the basic pillars of fascism: racism, nationalism, chauvinism, totalitarianism.

However, Bulgarian institutions seem to be unable to deal with the obvious ethnic hatred, intolerance and fascist ideas which try to impose a new order in our country.

Dear Prosecutor-General of the Republic of Bulgaria,

Hereby, we appeal to monitor and take measures concerning the escalating of pro-fascist actions of various groups and organizations in the country. We insist on Prosecutor-General to be concerned and bring the criminal responsibility to the leaders who are imposing hatred and ethnic intolerance over Bulgaria. Fascist events began to be organized in the country and we demand to bring the organizers to the law and apply the full force of the Constitution and the Penal Code of the Republic of Bulgaria to deal with them.

Dear minister of interior,

It is unacceptable to have Nazi formations which try to usurp the function of the police in establishing a new order.  We insist on putting an end to these practices and on taking effective measures to stop the activities of all "patrols" and the organizations of the concerts with Nazi message. We urge the police to be among the people and to keep the people away from the threat of increasing social disturbances in the public places. We expect a real and an effective action of the Ministry of Interior.

Dear Political parties,

Do not drive the country into the chaos and the hatred-done enough! We call for the moral in the politics, allowing the development and the unification of the nation. We insist on you to refrain from using the refugee issue for political purposes. All this instigates racial and ethnic hatred among the society and threatens the national security. The responsible political parties should be limited to the actions that unite the nation and work on its European democratic development.

Dear journalists of Bulgarian media,

We believe in your professionalism and we hope for responsible behaviour while presenting the opinions of leaders of extremist formations. We appeal on you to limit and even stop presenting the fascist and Nazi leaders and groups because "Fascism is not a part of the right to have an opinion, it is a crime." It is giving a base for hatred and ethnic intolerance and the promotion of Nazi elements shows children and young people a philosophy which has been denied and is defined as hazardous by a modern humanity. We urge you not to encourage the speech of hate, not to allow the division of the nation, not to give a platform for presenting the ideologies that led to the death of over 30 million citizens.
