24.02.2014Following its purpose – cooperation between teachers, parents, principals and students, CIEDT

Training for parents under the motto "Active parents for successful children" was held from February 20 to 24 in the city of Veliko Tarnovo. The meeting was attended by over 55 representatives of the parent clubs, which were formed in the schools involved in the program "Decreasing Roma children drop out of school - EVERY STUDENT CAN BE A WINNER", located in the following districts: Varna, Dobrich, Shumen, Targovishte, Vidin, Vratsa, Montana, Pleven, Lovech, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Razgrad, Silistra.

Some problems occurred during the training of parents. We understood that there were difficulties and a real opportunity to be overcome:

         To find a way for parents to be involved in the school by participating in parent clubs;

         To learn parents to be good partners and take initiative;

        Together with school to do everything necessary to find the good in even “the most difficult" child;

To make the child believe in us, to show him that we believe in him, to be interested in his school life and to support him;

         To improve our parenting skills, to learn to take responsibility and seek help, if necessary;

Very emotional was the game, called "Clash" on "for" and "against" early marriages. The parents created a "natural environment" and defended their thesis with strong arguments. Both teams came to the conclusion: It is difficult, but it is evident that young people are changing and early marriages decreased.

Particular attention and many new ideas were generated for the next steps of the parents, namely: how, with whom and how they would convey what they have learned during the training to the other parents in the schools where they come from.
The parents wanted to discuss the following three topics:

1. Roma groups in Bulgaria;

2 . Marriage and family;

3 . School as an institution - professional development.

For this purpose, all present parents made a plan for the development of the activity of the parent clubs about what they needed to improve the performance of the parent club, what materials they needed for meetings, etc. Till the end of the school year 2013/2014 they will make at least three meetings / discussions with other parents. The parents accepted with pleasure the proposal to participate in the exchange visits between schools.

Parents - Roma, Turks, and Non - Roma united around the main goal: we all work together for the good of all children!

Let's do this step forward together!
