On August 24-th, Ambassador of Netherlands Mr. Tom van Oorshot and Embassy staff participated in an initiative to improve the environment in Primary School "Vasil Levski" in the village Vidrare, Pravets Municipality. The school was established in 1848 as a secular school, having previously existed as the first monastery school in the region. Today about 60 children from Bulgarian and Roma ethnicity are educated there, with a quarter of them having special educational needs. Headmaster Mr. Deyan Dimitrov and the organizers from Center "Amalipe" expressed their gratitude to the staff of the embassy for their help in painting the fence of the school. Stressing the importance of reading, the ambassador gave the students copies of the book of the Dutch Princess Laurentien van Oranje "Mr. Finney and mystery among the trees", translated in Bulgarian.

The campaign "Together we can do more" continues also in September. The campaign aims to bring together Bulgarians and Roma, to support through volunteering activities the school in their town or village, and to share their memories of school years and their dreams for the school in the future, in which children of different ethnicities are educated together. This will reduce ethnic tensions and will hamper the growth of ethnic conflicts locally. The campaign is supported by the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria Mrs. Margarita Popova.

In the campaign will take part well-known journalists, public figures, artists, diplomats.
During the first stage of the campaign – till the end of August - more than 20 schools will participate in it. After the beginning of the school year we expect the number to exceed to 100.
